Moving in Manly
Manly is the busy southern gateway to the peninsula, and a move here is shaped by density and the beachfront. Behind The Corso the streets are narrow and often one-way, the housing runs to dense apartments and terraces, and the churn is high: rental turnover, downsizers, students near the ferry wharf. The 4-hour metered limit along the beachfront (North and South Steyne, Queenscliff) means a truck cannot stand outside a beachfront block all day, so we scout a loading spot off the metered frontage and work to the clock. The bigger timing question is the Spit Bridge: it is the only southern road exit toward the city, and when it opens for boats it halts everything for about 15 minutes, so we route the truck around the published opening times rather than getting caught in the stall. Manly is minutes from the Spit when the bridge is closed, which is why the timing, not the distance, is the thing we plan around here.
Where Manly sits on the run to the city
The Northern Beaches is the only major Sydney region with no train or metro, so every move is a road move. And the road climbs a real 27 km from the southern beaches (13.1 km at Balgowlah) up to Palm Beach (40.2 km) at the tip — one way in, one way out. That gradient is why a far-north move is a different job from a Manly one. Manly is about 16.5 km from the CBD by road.

What we plan around here
- Dense apartments and terraces with high rental and downsizer churn behind The Corso
- Narrow, often one-way streets and a 4-hour metered limit along the beachfront
- The Spit Bridge is the only southern road exit and openings stall all traffic
- Minutes from the city off-peak when the bridge is closed; timing is the real factor

Manly removals: common questions
How does the Spit Bridge affect a Manly move?
It is the main timing factor. The Spit Bridge is an opening drawbridge over Middle Harbour, and it is the only southern road exit toward the city. When it opens for tall boats it stops all traffic, and it does not clear for about 15 minutes afterward. The published weekday openings are roughly 10:15am, 11:15am, 1:15pm, 2:15pm and 8:15pm, so we time the run to miss them rather than sit in the stall. For a Manly job heading to or from the city we plan the truck run around those openings so we are not stuck waiting on the bridge.
Can a removal truck park on the Manly beachfront?
Not for long. There is a 4-hour metered limit along the beachfront at North and South Steyne and Queenscliff, and the resident beach permits do not cover a truck, so we cannot just stand outside a beachfront block all day. We scout a loading position off the metered frontage where we can and work efficiently to the limit, and behind The Corso we plan around the narrow one-way streets.
Do you move Manly apartments with lifts and loading docks?
Yes. A lot of Manly moves are apartment moves, so where the building has a goods lift and a loading area we book the lift window with building management and confirm any move-in notice or certificate of currency before the day. Tell us the building and we will sort the access ahead of time so the move runs to schedule.
How much does a Manly move cost?
Our rates start at $250/hour for two movers and a truck ($350 for three, $500 for a larger crew with two trucks), and you get a clear indicative quote up front for your specific move. No surprises on the day.
